Born as Refilwe Given Kekana on 07 May 1991 in Lephalale town, Limpopo, Mapimpana as affectionately known as young, fresh and vibrant upcoming artist/emcee to soon hit the mainstream with a huge surprise. Growing up in Lephalale Mapimpana is where he met a couple of hip hop enthusiasts at a psych rap battle. That's where he drew his inspiration and love for hip hop. With the role of his brother who also pumped hip hop music day and night at his home, he was then sold to the art for good.
At the age of 16, Mapimpana started writing and rapping. With the lack of a hip hop platform in Lephalale, he was forced to travel more than 120km every weekend to attend hip hop sessions in Mahwelereng, Mokopane. He had an opportunity to rub shoulders with seasoned street cats and professional recording artists. After high school, in 2011, he went to Lephalale FET College where he studied Information & Technology at the college, he then enrolled with Nosa studying Safety Management. Music for Pimpz is like a world he goes to be himself and express his life through words. He believes his talent for rapping was a god given talent that he wishes to let the world to get to hear him.
His favorite hip hop artist includes Khuli Chana and Ginger Trill and in terms of production He wishes to work with one of the renowned producers like Sticky Menwana and Trompi. In his own words he said he initially thought he was studying to please his parents but later realized it was all worth it.
Mapimpana is now a full-time recording Artist He has shared the stage with the likes of Khuli Chana, Ifani, T-bo Touch, Cassper Nyovest, K.O, Stilo Magolide and many more. In 2015 Mapimpana landed himself a deal with waptrendz.com - an online music enterprise which also made him an ambassador for Waptrendz.
With the help of waptrendz.com Pimpz has been able to move closer to his music career as the first pedi rapper to emerge in South Africa, in 2016 he was nominated for BEST NEWCOMER at the F.A.M.E awards in Polokwane. Pimpz has also been noticed by a lot event organizers as an artist who has a good stage presents and is an entertainer, that's why some of you may have seen him at events such as The Polokwane Beerfest, First Friday, Soweto Take Down, Annual Black & White and the Mokopane Spin City.
